Thara'a Savings Account FAQS
Thara'a is a Shariah compliant Savings Account that allows you to earn monthly profit as well as a chance to win big cash prizes.
Dukhan Bank is a fully-fledged Shariah compliant bank and all products and services are approved from the Bank’s Shariah Supervisory Board. This product is based on Mudaraba concept and cash prizes are allocated from the bank's own funds and are purely distributed on a random draw basis.
All Qatari residents having a valid Qatari Identification can apply for this product including nationals and expatriates. Customers under the age of 18 fall in minor category and have to comply with the minor policy as detailed in the bank’s terms and conditions.
The minimum amount to open this account is QAR 10,000.
There would be two types of draws i.e. monthly and quarterly. Monthly draws will not be conducted in parallel with quarterly draws. The Quarterly draws are of two types one is for Quarter 2 and Quarter 4 of the calendar year, the other type is for the Quarter 1 and Quarter 3, the prizes for both the types are different, however the criteria for keeping the deposit balance is the same as detailed in the terms of the product. Dukhan Bank reserves the right to change/alter the criteria at its own discretion with one month advance notice.
The number of chances is calculated electronically. Each QAR 1,000 qualifies for one chance provided that you have a minimum balance of QAR 10,000 in your account.
The minimum balance should not be less than QAR 10,000 and there should not be more than 2 withdrawals in a month’s time. However for quarterly draws the minimum balance should not be less than QAR 10,000 for any month during the quarter and the total number of withdrawals should not exceed 6 withdrawals during the quarter.
You can open this account any time, however to earn chances for the draws, you have to complete the minimum set period for each draw. For monthly draws, if you are entering into the pool on the 15th of January then you will earn your chances from 1st February and will get into thedraw that will held at the end of February. Likewise if you are entering in the pool in February then you will get into the draw that will happen in June.
Yes. There would be a monthly profit payment in your account as per the bank’s announced profit rate for this product.
Dukhan Bank will hold the draw under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce. Monthly and quarterly draws will take into account all eligible accounts for the previous month/quarter. The draw schedule may change due to public holidays or for any other reason which beyond the bank’s control. Winners will be announced on the bank’s website.
The maximum number of chances is 10,000 only. Furthermore any winner of Millionaire draw of previous year draw will not be eligible of subsequent year draw. For example any customer who has won the Millionaire draw in 2015 or 2016 will be excluded from Millionaire draw of 2017. Maximum number of monthly prizes won by any customer will not exceed 3 times the maximum monthly prize. Any customer who has won monthly prizes 3 times will be excluded from the subsequent draws during that calendar year.
You don’t need to be necessarily available in the country. However the bank needs to contact you therefore please ensure that your contact details are updated with the Bank. The Bank will credit the prize money into your account provided all requirements are met but will not incur any additional charges to repatriate the money.
